FerdarchianHistory

Ferdarchi has a vast history, much of which has been forgotten over the years, but some history remains written in various books thoughout the lands or told through the words of storytellers. Some of our history has even made it into the songs of the musicians? who travel the lands with thier lutes.

Bor's Sacrifice is one of the oldest pieces of recorded history.

More recently, The Hand Of Sulamar smote the once great city of Eristan and the castles Forest Keep, Sleepy Hollow, The Hole and Winterhold.

There is a legend about the creation of DartMUD and its gods, and it goes like this:

In the beginning there was the Fire. And the Fire raged in the heart of the Creator's forge. Throughout the night the Creator worked, plying his trade with love, intelligence, and the unmatched skill. As the Creator stoked his mighty forge in preparation for his labors, his love of his craft mixed with the flames of the forge. And from the fire was born Mahasa, Goddess of Passion.

As the creator withdrew the unformed world and pounded it into shape upon the Great Anvil. The energy from the cooling metal mixed with the slow compliance of the metal, giving birth to Sulamar, He who guides Fate. Unsatisfied with the still-rough shape of his work, the Creator plunged the metal into the forge once again, impatiently heating the piece to prepare it for a second series of shaping blows. Created by the mix of the Creator's impatience and the heat of his forge, Tannorat'h, Commander of Aggression sprang from the fire. Withdrawing the now-glowing form from the fire, the Creator swung his mighty hammer with blows both powerful and precise and struck the finishing touches upon the world. The Spirit of the World, awakened by the bell-like, shimmering tone of the resounding hammer and anvil, harmonized with the Creator's design and combined with the energy of the cooling world. Floating gracefully up from the anvil on the mixed energies of sound and heat coming from the Creator's project, Dannika, Guardian of Peace emerged and joined her kin.

Now the world was done. And the Creator, pleased with his work, drew a heavy sigh of satisfaction. Still, there was one last step before the work was complete.

Stoking the fire and pumping the mighty bellows, the Creator brought the temperature of his forge to its extreme limit and joyfully hefted his magnum opus into the center of the heat. He kept His work engulfed in the fire as long as he dared, making it hotter than it had ever been before.

From the mixture of the Creator's excitement, his fear of destroying his project, and the unsurpassed heat radiating from the forge, Anastasia, the Sorceress of Destruction, drew her own consciousness out of the raging flames. Retrieving his work from the heart of the forge, the Creator quickly plunged the glowing, fiery form into a great basin of water to temper his project. Surrounded by billowing clouds of steam, the Creator breathed a sigh of relief and pride and examined His handiwork by the glow of his forge. As the World cooled in his hands, the Creator's pride mixed with the heat of the forge and the steam in the air to form the essence of the final God: Martin, conservator of Life. The Creator beamed with pride as he admired the fruit of his labor and, after sweeping the debris from the workroom floor, gingerly picked up the cooling world and carried it home. There, he placed his project on the hearthstones to admire his work by the gentle glow of the fire. Then, with a heavy, satisfied sigh, he turned and wearily trudged upstairs to bed. While the Creator slept, several sparks from the Creator's hearth chanced to land upon the his favorite piece. In the places where the water still clung to the surface of the creation, the sparks were dissolved into the liquid. Some, however, touched dryer parts of the Creator's project. All were seen by Martin as they landed and each one was viewed with interest. As each spark fell, Martin breathed softly upon the ember and, by his will alone, turned the fiery essences of the Creator's hearth into the creatures which now inhabit the world we know as Ferdarchi.
